The Story
A new concert series in partnership with the National Library in Jerusalem aims to bring themes from the library's collections to life through music.
The third concert in the series is dedicated to International Holocaust Remembrance Day and focuses on Steve Reich's Different Trains. This affecting work illustrates the contrast between train travel in the United States during World War II and in its parallel in Europe, and highlights the complexities of the war years even for those not directly impacted. The performance will be accompanied by a video installation by created by Beatriz Caravaggio. Also on the program is Jacob Weinberg's Clarinet Quintet On Jewish Themes. Weinberg, a Jewish composer born in Russia in 1879, emigrated to Palestine in the 1920s before relocating to New York, where he remained active until his death in 1956. His compositions are rich with Ashkenazi Jewish influences, which are evident in the quintet.
This series is made possible by the generosity of Bruce and Suzie Kovner.
