The Story

A new concert series in partnership with the National Library in Jerusalem aims to bring themes from the library's collections to life through music.

Nature and the botany have long served as a profound source of inspiration for Western composers, who have found in them reflections of harmony, freedom, renewal, and the enduring vitality of life itself.

For the second concert in the series — inspired by the exhibition There Are Flowers Between the Pages of the National Library — we have curated a richly varied program spanning from the early 19th century to the present day. The evening will feature beloved chamber works, songs, new arrangements, and even a composition for solo tape, all united by their celebration of nature’s beauty and resilience. This series is made possible by the generosity of Bruce and Suzie Kovner. Robert Schumann Selections from Myrthen for soprano and piano Kaija Saariaho Jardin Secret I for solo tape Clara Schumann Romances for clarinet and piano Charles Koechlin Le nénuphar for soprano, flute, and piano Toru Takemitsu Rain Tree for piano Franz Schubert The Shepherd on the Rock for soprano, clarinet, and piano Claude Debussy Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun for flute, clarinet, and piano Selection of Hebrew songs arranged for chamber ensemble.
