April 7th-16 (Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York)

Four different homages comprise this program. At the center is Brahms' C minor Piano Quartet  - a deeply personal homage to his beloved and unattainable muse, Clara Schumann. Brahms' instruction that the title page include a blue and yellow drawing of a young man holding a gun to his head - a clear reference to the protagonist in Goethe's The Sorrows of Young Werther - illustrates the turbulent drama at the core of this work.

Bartok's homage is to two of the great virtuosos of the 20th century who commissioned this work - jazz great Benny Goodman and Hungarian violinist Joseph Szigeti. The result is a mesmerizing combination of folk and jazz that has become a staple of the repertoire.

Johann Anton Andrè pays homage to Mozart in his reimagining of one Mozart's violin sonatas for the unusual combination of string trio and clarinet, an instrument Mozart championed.

And finally, one of Israel's most important contemporary voices, Yinam Leef, pays tribute to the great violist and composer Oedeon Partos in his Triptych from 1997.
