Emergence of Genius: Beethoven and Bartók in their 20s
To honor Beethoven's 250th birthday year, two of his most dynamic early works are featured side-by-side and paired with a later revolutionary voice, in Bartok's epic Piano Quintet. Through these works, the twenty-something-year-old Beethoven is revealed as fully confident and in command of his muscular style, while Bartok looks back to a more opulent, romantic language that only hints at the modernist he would become.
