The Story
From One Thousand and One Nights to Russian folk tales and Nordic mythology, the East has continuted to captivate our imagination with its rich folklore. But how does a composer write in a folk style? And is it even possible to reflect the spontaneity, imagination and freedom inherent in the folk music of the Eastern Hemisphere in Western concert music? The five composers represented in this program all tackle this challenge and paint a fascinating picture of music influenced by these ancient traditions.
