The Israeli Chamber Project (ICP) is announcing its first concert tour, to take place January 10 – 15, 2008 in Israel.

ICP is a new initiative which brings together some of the finest young Israeli musicians for chamber music performances and educational outreach activities both in Israel and abroad. Grammy award winning Israeli contralto Mira Zakai had this to say about the Project's inception:

"This is a group of excellent young Israeli musicians, whose spirit and vision is extraordinary indeed. Their contribution to the music scene in Israel and abroad will no doubt be of great significance."

The tour begins with a concert at the Jerusalem Music Centre on January 10th at 8 PM.

On January 11th the ensemble will give a matinee performance at 11 AM at the Bet Gabriel Cultural Center on the shores of the Sea of the Galilee and at 9 PM will appear at the Keshet Eilon Concert Hall in Kibbutz Eilon in northern Israel.

On January 13th ICP members perform at the Arad Cultural Center in southern Israel at 7 PM.

On January 14th ICP travels to Shfaram to work with students at the Beit-Almusica conservatory at 4 PM and present a concert at 7:30 PM.

The tour concludes with a performance at the Einav Center in Tel-Aviv on the 15th of January at 8:30 PM.

In these concerts ICP will present works by Bach, Bartok, Brahms, Martinu, Mozart and Ravel, as well as the world premiere of Matan Porat's Night Horses, commissioned by ICP especially for this tour.

Matan Porat writes:

Night Horses was inspired by one of Jorge Luis Borges's written lectures. Borges argued that the original meaning of the word "nightmare" is "night horse", and that for years people believed a black horse was invading their dreams and causing them distress.

The piece is a rhapsodic fantasy. Sometimes sweet, at other times harsh and intense, which commences in a dream, and concludes in awakening.

Night Horses was commissioned by Adele and John Gray of the America-Israel Foundation, and is dedicated to Tibi Cziger and the members of the Israel Chamber Project.
